PRESS RELEASE March 1, 2016
From singer/songwriter Chris Nauman comes the release of "Better Angels" his second independent release packed with 14 original songs infused with a fierce vision of living each moment deeply and deliberately.  This oeuvre features acoustic gems such as the ode to Robin Williams, "My Captain" and the whimsical, "The Stars Are Waiting". It also showcases folk rock stand outs such as the award winning anthem "We Stand Our Ground" and the yearning rocker "I Gotta Burnin". Inbetween lies the Mark Knopfler-esque, "Your Shine" and the Americana swag of "Sand in the Vial".

The production is an ensemble of some of the finest musicians found in the Boston area, including saxophonist Billy Novick, formerly of the David Bromberg Band, local vocal legend Louise Grasmere and bassist Steve Gilligan of the Stompers. Several of the Bay State's finest guitarists lend their licks to the tracks: Lyle Brewer, Rob Carlson and Kenny Selcer. Recent Berklee grads Seth Botos and Audrey Knuth add drums and fiddle, respectively. Eric Kilburn, a man with many hats, adds many things. Phil Punch contributes percussion and we hear Pete Tillotson add some bass too. The Better Angels Choir makes its debut appearance on two tracks.

The album was recorded, mixed and mastered at Wellspring Sound, Acton, MA with the help of Eric Kilburn. Eric has worked with many accomplished artists including Tracy Chapman, J. Geils, Al Kooper, Dar Williams, and Martin Sexton. The list goes on.

Chris Nauman is an award winning singer/songwriter who pumps passion into his performance with his dynamic guitar work and expressive vocals.  He commands the stage with a keen sense of honesty and freshness. Drawing inspiration from Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Jeff Tweedy, Colin Meloy and many others (including Bob Dylan of course), Nauman channels his mid Western sensibilities into a spirited blend of Americana/folk rock.   Sometimes caressing, sometimes kinetic, his music is always sure to please.

Growing up in Cleveland, OH. Nauman would sit at his father’s feet listening to him play the accordion.  Pumped to play music himself, Nauman first picked up the accordion and then the guitar.  He cut his teeth playing the local music scene in Dayton, OH during college.  He was at the center of political activism in the 1980s while living in the San Francisco Bay Area.  One would find him frequently playing at local rallies and antiwar protests with local activist and folk artist, Francisco Herrera.  Medical school and training derailed Nauman's musical ambitions for more than a decade as he embraced a career as a medical oncologist.  Ever a Renaissance man, he has now embraced his artistic impulses as the singer/songwriter he was born to be. Chris Nauman lives in Arlington, MA with his main squeeze, Suzy.

March 1st, 2013: Chris Nauman wins 3rd prize in the Family Folk Chorale Songwriting Contest for his song "We Are the People".

Chris Nauman's music is featured on NECN cable TV's "Morning Show", 7- 9am, January 17th, 2013.  "I See the LIght" and "Hangin On" will be featured music during the broadcast.
